When orbital debris cuts off Earth from the stars, a young pilot orphaned by the collision joins the mission to clear the wreckage — to reconnect with her father trapped on Mars, and restore abundance. Thirteen years ago, a single piece of debris created a cascade of destruction that sealed Earth’s sky, ending the age of abundance. Maya, orphaned that day, becomes a pilot in the fleet tasked with clearing the debris — and learns that true bravery sometimes requires vulnerability, and a willingness to confront the past to move forward.

Project Mission

Mandalay Productions Creative Producer Hunter Finley joins writer-director Matthew Antonino and a talented creative team on his first AI-generated short film, developed for the Future Vision XPRIZE. Set in a future where orbital debris has severed Earth’s connection to the stars, the story follows Maya, a young pilot confronting the tragedy that shaped her childhood as she joins a mission to reopen the skies and reconnect humanity with what lies beyond. For Hunter, the project represents an opportunity to explore how emerging AI filmmaking tools can expand visual possibilities while keeping character, emotion, and human imagination at the center of the story.

The project also marks an important step in Mandalay Productions’ exploration of AI Stories—a space where technology can give writers, directors, and producers new ways to visualize ideas that might otherwise be difficult to bring to the screen. Working alongside forward-thinking filmmakers like Matthew, MP aims to build future collaborations that combine original writing, strong creative direction, and new production technologies to tell culturally diverse and emotionally meaningful stories. As these tools evolve, Mandalay Productions sees its role not in replacing filmmakers, but in partnering with creative talent to discover new ways of bringing human stories to audiences.
